General Crayfish info. PLEASE SIGN MY GUESTBOOK the burrowing crayfish is one of the bigger ones that i have seen. you can tell how big they are from the size of the hole on the top on the mound. the propper was to get them would be using a plunger to pump it to make them come to top and snatch them! or you can try my favorite the one were you get messy!!! you juist split the chimny open then dig until you find them try not to squish them ive did that many times... the pond or stream crayfish are simpler they are easly trapped in a jar or just lured by a peice of bacon on a string i just use my hand but beware they pinch!
Territory & Tank Habbits Most often if you put baby or smaller crayfish in with bigger adults they will be eaten or cannablized by there own species. So you might want to put youg crayfish in a seprate container like tupper-ware or a smaller aquairium of some sort. Also if your female has eggs put her in a different container or tupper-ware,or they babies might be killed. Soon after the babies break away from mom take the mom out and put her back in with the others so she doesn't kill or eat her babies. If you have babies BEWARE: they are a big huge responsability in other words more cleaning better care testing water for heat level etc. I have learned from experiance that when a crayfish shell gets soft and it is laying around take him out flush him after you put him out of his missory because he is dieing and he is suffering! My crayfish died resently his name was LockJaw he was injured when i found him with his left pincher gone so that might have been the reason or the water was to cold for him... but the female how ever survived so it must have been sickly before i got him. If you fight crayfish like i do sometimes make sure yours is healthy and is not going to be injured to bad before its fight with friends or relitives make sure they know how to handle theres too. Also make sure you tell them if they buy a species thats not from your state not to let it loose due too species that make each other extinct. What To Feed My Crayfish? What to feed your crayfish is a hard choice which is made by what they like the best. and what is best for them. Like i have a diet that mine are on that they seem to stick too they also enjoy this because it has varity which is good i mean you wouldnt like eating pizza for your whole life would you? There main foods consist of plants,snails,smaller crayfish,fish, and scavenge the bottoms for dead or injured stuff. Later will list what i feed mine, but anyway they are good hunters but great scavengers so if you have goldfish in with them get them out ,or they will be dinner! Dont not... I repeat do not put shrimp in with them they carry a disease thats is caught by crayfish and is fatal!!! Some plants can even harm or kill the crayfish so watch what you put in with them! What i feed my crayfish is below....... Monday: Goldfish Flakes Tuesday:Meat-beef,chicken,pork Wednesday:Pond Plants,or Vegetables Thursday:Goldfish Flakes Friday:Meat-beef,chicken,pork Saturday:Pond Plants,or Vegetables Sunday:Goldfish Flakes Do not over feed your crayfish it can and probably will kill your crayfish because the water gets dirty and poisons your crayfish slowly killing it change your water twice a week at most once at least.
